Our clients at Microcomms are many and varied, operating across the entire spectrum of industry. But what they all have in common is the need for reliable WiFi. Here in Cornwall, as you might expect, that includes the hospitality sector. As an example of how we can help your hospitality business, whatever the size, we’re delving into a case study of a recent project we completed for Budock Vean Hotel & Spa.
Situated next to the tranquil waters of the Helford River, Budock Vean Hotel is a luxurious, family run establishment. It has a golf course and associated shop, separate cottage accommodation and, of course, the hotel itself. The client approached us wishing to upgrade and simplify customers’ connectivity to the WiFi.
Originally, the hotel had 40 wireless access points located around the site, varying in vendors. However, given modern requirements and increasing demand for bandwidth with the hardware and apps that we all use, these were struggling to cope with the daily demands being placed on them. Therefore, following a comprehensive review and survey of the existing network, we proposed a solution that met all key requirements: RUCKUS WiFi 6.
What we needed to achieve for the hotel was a wireless connection that was, first of all, stable. That, secondly, could be used by all the internal devices required in order to manage the business’ daily running. Security was also a key factor. As was the need to ensure that the network could be segregated into guest and admin access.
For the guests, a fast and secure solution was required for the use of devices throughout the site, without compromising on the integrity of the network. The client also wanted to future proof the new network for possible new technologies and IOT devices. Things such as wireless door entry systems, smart lighting and in-room entertainment. All of which could be installed later to enhance the customer experience.
By using the latest RUCKUS Wi-Fi 6 technology, we were able to achieve a perfect combination of increased capacity, expanded coverage, and economical benefits in a high-density environment, handling heavy demand on available bandwidth with ease. This is precisely what RUCKUS Wi-Fi 6 is designed to do. It provides a much higher threshold for possible internet speed, and enables the speed to be split, or ‘divvied up’, between a whole network of devices. This means more potential speed for each device, rather than the classic ‘traffic jam’ that the hotel was experiencing with its old infrastructure.
In order to achieve all of this, we first had to remove the existing access points. We were then tasked with re-cabling throughout to allow for the placement of RUCKUS access points, both internally and externally. Once done, we fine-tuned the network, auditing and testing it to ensure that the hotel was maximising its investment and that connectivity throughout the site was seamless.
The result is impressive and is already making an enormous difference to both the daily running of the business. It’s improved the experience of guests. Additionally, when it comes to possible new technologies that may one day be installed at the hotel, it’s more than up to the task. This means Wi-Fi connectivity one less worry for the management as they look to the hotel’s future.
