Upgrading WiFi for a Better Customer Experience
Our client is a busy landlady of a popular village pub in Cornwall. The Miners Arms at Mithian is a traditional 16th Century pub featuring real wooden beams, low ceilings and thick granite walls.
Whilst this beautiful olde-worlde pub has plenty to offer in terms of a warm welcome, delicious food and relaxed atmosphere, the structure of the old building meant this small business experienced broadband, EPOS and performance issues.
Specifically, these included:
- Slow or no internet connection in most areas of the pub
- Some devices not being able to connect to the Wi-Fi
- Users getting regularly bumped off the network
- A poor customer experience, especially at busy times
- The Wi-Fi network disappearing all together* Issues with EPOS and till connectivity
- The network connecting but not providing any internet connection
- Issues with streaming music (jitter and cutting out)
- Temperamental issues
We were contacted by our client to review the existing infrastructure and make recommendations and after identifying the root causes of the issues, we put forward a plan to increase performance and resilience of the network and broadband in order to provide a stable platform.
We also undertook a WiFi survey to improve coverage to all required areas of the site, and to make efficient use of placement to keep overall costs down.
We identified some fibre issues which were resolved by recommending to our client that she contacts her Internet Service Provider.
This led to a large increase in their network speeds that they were previously unaware of. In order to provide a reliable network we recommended a HP Switch with Power over Ethernet (POE) to negate the need for electrical works, again reducing cost.
