The Eden Project in Cornwall has become one of the most-visited attractions in the UK since it was built to mark the Millennium. Most famous for the enormous Rainforest Biome, Eden hosts a large number of campaigns and behaviour change programmes working on environment, climate change, education and regeneration.  It is an educational charity that aims to connect us with each other and the living world and its reliable fibre optics network enables this to happen.

The visitor centre in Cornwall, is nestled inside a huge crater. Here, massive biomes housing the largest rainforest in captivity, stunning plants, exhibitions and stories serve as a backdrop to striking contemporary gardens, summer concerts and exciting year-round events. Over the course of the last 17 years Microcomms has designed and integrated an entire fibre optic-based campus infrastructure across The Eden Project site.


In order to fulfil its goals, The Eden project site needs a consistent and reliable connection to be able to deliver the broad range of experiences it has become famous for.

With a large section of the business strategy being based around education visits from schools both far and wide, the technology installed is continually evolving to cope with developing user trends such as handheld devices and wifi, as well as moving towards introducing new ways to interact with exhibits and find out information to help engage the youth further.


With an ever growing collection of buildings across the old clay pit site, the network consists of the largest blown fibre optic network in Cornwall linking all of the buildings and services required to drive one of the premier environmental tourist attractions in the world. Each building has a unique feature or design which presented challenges when distributing infrastructure and by close collaboration with the client successful outcomes have always been achieved.
