ADC KRONE Blown Fibre Solutions
Higher Capacity Upgrades Now Easier and More Cost-Effective
Blown Fibre is seen by many as the lowest cost model. Small plastic fibre ducts are initially installed with ample spare capacity. Fibre in OM1, 2, 3, 3e, or OS1 in “bundles” of 2 to 12 fibre cores is blown-in to the ducts. Further fibre is easily blown-in without disruption when additional capacity or higher data-rates are required. Unlike other blown-fibre solutions, TrueNet blown fibre can also be recovered and re-used.
For traditional deployments, pulled-fibre cables are available with core-counts from 2 to 264 and a third option of factory pre-terminated, tested and certified fibre cabling is also available.
Fibre connectivity solutions include the TrueNet plastic patch panel which has integral fibre management and the TrueNet split fibre patch panel which contains two completely independent patch panels within a 1U rack space – making it possible to install expansion capacity at the same times as ensuring that existing fibres will not be disturbed.
Work area outlets in LC Quad, SC-duplex, ST-duplex and MT-RJ variants cover all single-mode and multi-mode requirements and the TrueNet fibre portfolio is completed with a full range of patch-cords, pigtails and splice enclosures.
Offering 10 Gigabit/s link lengths up to 300 metres, the new ADC KRONE OM3 grade fibre can be blown-in to new or existing blown fibre tubes in bundles of 4, 8 or 12 fibres.
“The beauty of blown fibre installation,” said Alastair Waite, fibre product manager of ADC KRONE products for ADC, “is that upgrades to higher capacity can be performed simply and cost-effectively without expensive and disruptive cable laying.”
Using simple fibre-blowing apparatus, the whole 300 metre length of between 4 and 12 fibres can be blown-in in a matter of minutes. Once the upgraded fibre links are commissioned and in service any previously used fibre can be simply recovered and re-used elsewhere.
The new OM3 blown fibre has a minimum effective modal bandwidth (EMB) of 2,000MHz.km at 850mm wavelength with LASER OR VCSEL excitation. It also eliminates the need for mode-conditioning patch cords on 1,300mm systems.
As with all fibre solutions developed by ADC KRONE, the new OM3-grade 10 Gigabit/s blown fibre is fully supported with fibre patch panels, a range of fibre connectors, patch cords and pig-tails.
The OM3 blown fibre is suitable for 10 Gigabit/s Ethernet, OC-192 as well as FC, 2xFC and 4xFC fibre channel commonly used in Storage Area Networks (SANs) and data centres. It meets TIA/EIA-492 AAAC, ISO/IEC 11801 OM and IEC 60793-2-10 A1a.2 standards.
